Accepting Blog Submissions: July–September, 2025

The Religious Trauma Network is pleased to announce our next guest blog series for July, August, and September 2025. We invite submissions that thoughtfully explore the themes outlined below, while upholding our core values of respect and empowerment.

Please note: Submissions that self-promote (such as for books, blogs, businesses, or podcasts) will not be considered.

RTN Core Values:

  • We are a community for those with backgrounds rooted in diverse faith and religious traditions

  • We are a community of individuals who have either been impacted by Religious Trauma or are professionally supporting those who have

  • We value and respect the stories of every individual’s personal journey of healing from all forms of spiritual abuse or harm

  • We unconditionally accept the beliefs and chosen path of each individual on their healing journey

  • We provide resources without intent to change beliefs or dictate particular paths for healing

  • We do not believe it is necessary to agree on everything—including religion or politics—to hold space for one another through a community built around the common experience of Religious Trauma

July: Freedom Month

For July, we invite posts that explore the meaning of freedom through the lens of your religious background and your current beliefs or worldview—whether those remain religious, have shifted, or are now secular. Possible topics include:

  • What does freedom mean to you after experiencing a high-control, authoritarian, or rigid religious environment?

  • Navigating the tension between obedience and autonomy, both in your former faith context and your life today

  • Freedom of belief, thought, and choice—how do you experience or define it now?

  • The impact of NDAs, required faith statements, or other institutional expectations on your sense of agency

  • Recognizing and recovering from extremes in your religious community or tradition

  • Personal stories of reclaiming, redefining, or discovering freedom after religious change or transition

August: What Would Make a Difference?

In August, our focus is on support, justice, and healing for people from religious backgrounds—no matter where you are on your journey now. Possible topics include:

  • What would make (or would have made) a difference during a time of trauma, exclusion, or distress?

  • What does it take to feel supported, to heal, or to be believed—whether you’ve stayed, left, or redefined your faith?

  • Experiences of fair treatment, equality, or equity in your religious or spiritual community (or the lack thereof)

  • The importance of dignity for all—this could include women, LGBTQ individuals, cultural and religious minorities, people with disabilities, and those with evolving beliefs or identities

  • Stories of finding or offering support that made a meaningful difference on your path

September: Back to School

September’s theme centers on education, understanding belief diversity, and belonging, all through the lens of a religious background. We welcome posts on:

  • Personal experiences with education in religious, faith-based, or secular environments, and how your background influenced those experiences

  • Diversity of thought vs. exclusionary thinking in spiritual, academic, or community settings

  • How your culture, family, or religious upbringing shaped your beliefs or worldview—and how that may have changed over time

  • Experiences with critical thinking, questioning, or “thinking outside the box” as someone with a religious background

Submission Guidelines

  • Word count: 800–1,500 words

  • Include a brief author bio (under 100 words) and any relevant credentials; a headshot may also be submitted if you feel comfortable

  • Submissions are due two weeks before the start of each month** (except for July as that deadline is very near)

  • RTN reserves the right to suggest edits

  • Email submissions to: info@religioustraumanetwork.com

  • If your submission is accepted for publication, you will be notified by email

  • Quotes from published pieces may be developed into social media graphics/posts

We encourage a range of perspectives, religious backgrounds, and voices. All submissions should be sensitive to the experiences of others and avoid language that could be triggering or dismissive of trauma or personal choices.

Our goal is to empower readers, promote progress in healing, maintain ethical standards when discussing sensitive topics, and foster respect for all experiences. We look forward to your thoughtful and compassionate contributions to this important conversation.
